Tyler Howell is a highly accomplished saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist with extensive experience in performance, education, and music technology. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance at the University of North Georgia (UNG), Tyler’s career is marked by a dedication to both classical and jazz music, exemplified by numerous leadership roles in ensembles such as the UNG Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Tyler has also demonstrated academic prowess, completing coursework in music psychology, psychopathology, and a range of music theory and performance disciplines. Tyler aims to further this foundation through graduate study in music therapy, merging a love of music with a passion for psychological well-being.

 

Throughout Tyler’s time at UNG, he has led and performed in several high-profile showcases, including a junior recital, Nothing Gold Can Stay, that featured works by renowned composers such as David Maslanka and Paul Creston. His solo performances have been well-received, particularly his concerto performance of Paul Creston’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band, a piece he played after winning the UNG Concerto Competition. Tyler has also served as the principal saxophonist in the University of North Georgia’s Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, guiding sectional rehearsals, mentoring younger musicians, and contributing to the ensemble’s musical direction.

 

An experienced educator, Tyler has held positions as a private woodwind instructor at Lakeview Academy and a woodwind specialist for marching bands at East Hall High School and Lumpkin County High School. His teaching philosophy emphasizes adaptability and collaboration, with a focus on fostering a supportive, team-oriented environment for students. Tyler’s background also includes extensive volunteer work in children’s ministry and notable contributions in customer service roles, demonstrating his commitment to creating positive experiences in diverse settings.

 

Tyler’s musical achievements are complemented by several prestigious awards, including the C.J. Dismukes Distinguished Musician Award and the Rising Musician Award which he received while completing his studies at the University of North Georgia. Additionally, Tyler is a published poet, having released Seasons of the Forest and Ocean, a collection of over ninety poems exploring themes of love, pain, and faith.

 

With a passion for performance, a heart for education, and a commitment to continuous growth, Tyler Howell is dedicated to making a lasting impact in the fields of music performance, education, and therapy.
